Future Party Chairman Ahmet Davutoğlu made a statement regarding the footage recorded with President and AKP Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan at the reception in Parliament .
Davutoğlu spoke on Ekol TV about the photo taken with Erdoğan at the reception held on October 1 for the new legislative year of Parliament.
Davutoğlu, who said, "Commenting is free," continued:
There's a disease that's become even more widespread with the development of social media: interpreting the world through snapshots. If we sat there for about half an hour, maybe 45 minutes, you've determined my entire political career based on my body language in that one frame. Commenting is free. You have a civilized relationship with the main opposition leader, and the ruling media calls him a traitor. You meet with Mr. President in a civilized environment, and others say, "This is what happened."
Davutoğlu, who said, "I smile wherever I am, what's the point of frowning?", continued:
"Nations and politicians should at least have a culture of coming together. It's not 'Why did this person sit there, that person sit there?' It's something that happens naturally. So why hasn't it happened until now? That question should be asked of the President, not me. The President did the right thing this year. I understand Mr. Özgür Özel's reaction, but he should have participated."
